So, I used to have two icons in the top left of my Layer Manager that would allow me to Save Filter Groups, and to Import Filter Groups. I used it, I liked it. But then my Civil 3d 2018-2 installation crashed, I installed it again, and those icons are gone. I looked in my new installation of 2019

When a layer filter is selected in the Filters panel of the Layer Properties Manager, only the layers that match the properties specified in the filter are displayed in the layer list. Filtering layers reduces a long list of layers to only those that are currently relevant.
With straight AutoCad no OOTB commands available to import and export layer filters. Using C3d or MAP verticals you can do it easily using the LAYERSAVEFILTERTREE and LAYERLOADFILTERTREE commands. It works from version 2012 to present, I don't know if it's available prior to 2012 releases.
The filters themselves won't change. It can actually become quite tedious to add a filter, copy and paste the filter and then do same for a whole bunch of layers. To me, an ideal situation would be to apply a filter, export the filter as a text file perhaps, and then use an import that filter, similar to what you can do with a specific style.

I want to export my filters to the drawing. I use AutoCAD 2014 and the option to export my filters to another drawing is not available. Apparantly, the option was available in earlier versions of AutoCAD but not mine. However, other Autodesk products do have this option (3DCivils, Architecture) so it is possible to export the layer filters.
Saving layer filters (copying filters to another drawing). This .LFT file can be then loaded into another drawing to redefine its layer filters (the next button "Load filter groups").
